Yes, the "Unofficial Midwestern Burning Man Rideboard" isn't a BBS, it's a mailing list. We know. Get over it. .
Once upon a time, in the misty past when there was no such thing as the
World Wide Web, those who were looking for rides would place little cards
on hooks on a wall somewhere. That wall was called a "rideboard", and
that's what this list is for. That and nothing else, please (except
maybe for a little discussion of things to do and places to visit
along the way). People in the Midwest who want rides, or people passing
through the Midwest to take on riders to go to the Burning Man Festival or
similar events at some of the regional events, including are invited to post their notices to our list. If you're headed for Black Rock City, you might also want to place your notice in the appropriate section on ePlaya to maximize your listing's exposure. Hey, it's free and seen by thousands (maybe), so why not? Just keep in mind that this is a MIDWESTERN ride board. The Midwest consists of the Central and Great Plains States. If you do not live in and are not going to be picking up riders from one or more of those states, which we list below, please do not post here as you will be spamming the list.
Should something objectionable take place, we do have a contact group that you can and should use when something inappropriate this is going on. You shouldn't have to sit through any garbage just to get a ride to a recreational event. You can also use the standard contact address for a Yahoogroup, but because the spambots have learned to harvest those addresses, we might not see any mail sent to that address. Regrettably, good mail is sometimes accidentally discarded with the spam, so we would definitely recommend using the contact group, just to be safe. Would you like to continue on to the list? |
